Welcome to Scouting and the Cub Scout Wolf Rank

The Wolf Cub Program

Welcome to the Wolf trail!

The trail to the rank of Wolf Cub Scout is more challenging than the Tiger trail, with 12 achievements, each with multiple tracks. Achievements include more physical activity
in “Feats of Skill”, learning about safety in “Know Your Home and Community” and reacting to various situations in “Making Choices.” After earning the Wolf badge, Scouts complete various electives to earn gold and silver arrow points to proudly wear on their uniform shirt. At the Wolf rank, Scouts may also participate in the Cub Scout Academics and Sports program to earn special recognition belt loops and pins, just by learning about and participating in an academic subject or sport.

Your son doesn't have to wait until he completes his entire Wolf trail before being recognized for his work. As a Wolf, when he completes any three achievements, the Pack will present the Progress Toward Ranks totem to him. It is worn on the button of the right shirt pocket. Each time he completes three achievements he will receive another gold bead. After he gets his fourth gold bead, he will receive his Wolf badge at a Pack meeting. Cub Scouts may continue to wear this emblem after ranks are earned until they become Webelos Scouts.

As your son completes the requirements for the achievements on the Wolf trail, be sure to review his work and sign his book in the place for Akela's OK. At his next den meeting, he should show his book to his den leader who will record his progress and sign the book on the line provided.

Much of the advancement for the Wolf rank is done by the scout with his family outside of the den. You will sign off in his Wolf handbook then your Den Leader records the advancements from the handbook to a tracking chart or software program. As the Tiger program was completely family oriented, so the Wolf program relies heavily on family involvement. You will see this gradually change with your son doing more with his den and more individual direction as he reaches Webelos and Boy Scouts.
